- Lemon zest2 tablespoon
- Wheat flour350 g
- Chemical Yeast1.5 teaspoon
- Salt1 teaspoon
- Whole milk250 ml
- Vanilla0.5 teaspoon
- Melted unsalted butter200 g
- For the syrup: Juice of 1 lemon1 unit(s)
- For the syrup: Sugar50 g
- For the syrup: Water100 ml
- Poppy seeds for garnish to taste
- 1 cream cheese buttercream recipe to taste
- Preheat the oven to 170°C
- In a mixer, beat the sugar, eggs and zest until well incorporated.
- Mix the dry ingredients and add them little by little, alternating with the liquid ingredients.
- Grease a cake tin with a hole in the middle and grease it with mold release agent or with butter and flour and pour in the cake mix.
- Bake for about 1 hour or until an inserted toothpick comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, in a pan, mix the syrup ingredients and cook over medium heat until reduced to a thick syrup.
- When you take the cake out of the oven, while it is still hot, pour the syrup on top.
- Unmold the cake w let it cool completely
- Once the cake is cool, with the help of a spatula spread the buttercream and sprinkle poppy seeds to decorate
