Apple Pie with Basil Caramel

- Wheat Flour180 g
- Egg (and a little water to bind)1 unit(s)
- Demerara sugar1 tablespoon
- Pinch of salt0 to taste
- Brown sugar or Demerara1 cup
- Apples3 unit(s)
- Bunch of Basil1/4 pint
- Water50 ml
- Lemon1 unit(s)
- Cut the apples into wedges (each apple yields 8 pieces). Squeeze the lemon over the sliced apples. Reserve.
- In a pan put the sugar, water and basil. Let the sugar melt. As soon as you start to pick up the thread, remove the basil leaves and add the apples. Leave for 3 minutes. Turn off and let it cool. ***Tip:*** If you want to add spices feel free.
- In a bowl put the wheat flour, egg, sugar and a pinch of salt. Mix well with your hands until you form a dough. Let rest for 15 minutes.
- Open the dough with a rolling pin (if you don't have one, use a glass bottle with water inside), and place the dough in a removable bottom shape, greased with butter.
- Place the apples over the dough, add the syrup on top and bake for 20 minutes or until the dough is lightly browned.
- Optional: After removing from the oven, you can put some basil leaves to decorate and chestnuts like walnuts, hazelnuts or toasted almonds.
